i have no words

i have no words.

what is happening now in the world... the death of one man and the sacrifice of so many others... the raucous celebration (not unlike the images that make us cringe in horror when it happens elsewhere in the world)... the subsequent warnings for retaliation and the heightened security that will come... the end of one terrible reign sure to sprout another indidious evil like a starfish with one arm lopped off will surely grow a new one... it all leaves me feeling flat and empty... sad and scared... grateful... yet confused...

i have no words.

but the lovely soul behind starving artist ink does.

and her words are more eloquent and poignant than i could ever hope to be.

please go and read what she has to say.

namaste.

You actually put into words my feelings about the events of last night. While I'm relieved he's gone, I'm not "happy" about it at all. It makes me very worried and sad. I am praying for everyone everywhere!

Thanks for this Erin. As usual, I could not find the words to articulate my own thoughts but you and starving artist ink have done so. Positive thoughts and hopes for the future that we can move forward (East AND West) and find a mutual respect together. It's a scary time right now.

ALSO: I agree with every word you say here.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I'm going to read this out loud to my sons now.

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who felt that the chanting and dancing and yelling mobs were inappropriate. It embarrassed me as an American. That said, I do understand the relief to know that the embodiment of true-pure evil is no longer on this earth, it only makes me fear the person who now feels the need to avenge his death.

I've been having a hard time with this too. What does it say about us as humans if we can rejoice in the death of a fellow human? And dancing in the streets? Remember when they were doing this after 9/11 and how we felt? I had hoped we would be above this type of behavior and not bring ourselves to their level. While I'm not sad about the death of an evil man, neither do I think it should be celebrated. My concerns now are for the heightened risk the troops overseas now deal with as the rest of the world reacts to the news, as well as a concern for retaliation on American soil again. The whole situation is sad and scary.

I can understand that the families who have lost loved ones felt a sense of closure, but the pics of the chanting and dancing people were really disturbing. They reminded me of the pics I saw a hundred times in the arabic world after another senseless attack. And my heart goes out to all the people especially the soldiers abroad who might be in harms way after this event. We can only pray that the circle of strike and retaliation will stop soon.

Yesterday at work I felt I was the only one who thought to wrong to be celebrating a death. We are doing the same things we abhor when another group of people does it.

Thanks for the link to some wise words.

You'll have to head over there to see what I wrote. As a veteran, someone who saw the Pentagon get hit, and sister-in-law of a firefighter.
