30 Words :: Good Lighting

Send a headshot, she said.
*sigh*
Posing
I notice
dark eye-craters,
a deep canyon dimple
trails of tears, triumphs
criss-crossing.
 Embracing my topography.
Loving my landscape.
Good lighting changes everything.

Wild Blackberry Cordial

Wild Blackberry Cordial on my website www.tesoritrovati.com

Blackberry Eating
I love to go out in late September
among the fat, overripe, icy, black blackberries
to eat blackberries for breakfast,
the stalks very prickly, a penalty
they earn for knowing the black art
of blackberry-making; and as I stand among them
lifting the stalks to my mouth, the ripest berries
fall almost unbidden to my tongue,
as words sometimes do, certain peculiar words
like strengths or squinched,
many-lettered, one-syllabled lumps,
which I squeeze, squinch open, and splurge well
in the silent, startled, icy, black language
of blackberry-eating in late September.

"Let us love winter, for it is the spring of genius."
~Pietro Aretino

Today is my day to share over at the Art Bead Scene, Inside the Studio.

I am sharing my way to get out of a wicked winter blah rut.

And I am giving away a set (4) of my new Facet Effects beads.

30 Words :: Branches

Tangled limbs pierce the winter sky.
Chalky lines s-n-a-k-e delicate pathways
for nut-gatherers and songsters alike.
Weaving veins
await the thaw,
a blanket of green to {hide you}
once more.

Say Hello to Delia...

“As if you were on fire from within.
The moon lives in the lining of your skin.”
~Pablo Neruda

Meet my new friend, Delia.

I have always wanted to have have a model to wear my earrings. I had this idea of using sketches by Da Vinci on canvas, or old cabinet card photos of early 20th century beauties forgotten by time, and I tried to do this several times on my own, but nothing ever seemed right.

I came across her creator in a treasury that featured both of us. Hopping over to her shop, I was enthralled by the hauntingly gorgeous prints by artist Joanna Haber of ABitofWhimsyArt, in particular one called 'The Beauty Within'. I struck up a conversation with Miss Joanna and told her of my desire for a model for my earrings and she agreed that would be a wonderful use of her art and also agreed to put this lovely on canvas to make it more durable for me. She arrived right around Christmas, so lovingly wrapped. I would like to get back to having more of my jewelry available for sale, and my new model, will help me achieve that in very poetic and brilliant fashion befitting her new name.

Hearts & Flowers

I asked my daughter last night what we should call her, because a beauty like this needs a name that reflects her personality. She didn't hesitate. She said her name is Delia. I looked up Delia to find the meaning and it turns out that it usually means 'dark', but the one that I liked the best is that it is the Celtic name for the goddess of fire and poetry. A perfect choice for one so fiery and romantic.

The original art... A Beauty Within

I asked Miss Joanna who this mysterious woman was. This is what she told me...

"She just appeared on paper one day... A lot of my work just starts with a blank piece of paper & my pencil. & I sort of just let my imagination take over. When I was finished with her I didn't know right away what to title the piece... I was sort of thinking like she's the kind of beauty that only exists in fairy tales an "untouchable" sort of beauty... then I thought to myself... that's not true, we all have the ability to be beautiful like this...inside that is. So there you have it, "The Beauty Within". The representation of all that is good & kind in people."

This makes me love Delia even more!

If you would like to view more of Joanna Haber's hauntingly beautiful works of art, please visit her shop ABitofWhimsyArt  or her blog A Bit of Whimsy and tell her that Delia and I are doing fine!

I used to do this from time to time, these 30 Words exercises. I don't know if anyone liked them, but I do. And I miss them.
So I am attempting to make it something more regular here...
~30 Words Thursdays~
to document my world in images...
to chronicle what is in my head...
to be more present...
and to welcome poetry back to my soul.

The premise of 30 Words Thursdays is simple...

Take an image.
Write 30 Words about it. No more. No less.
Post it each Thursday.

The challenge for someone like me who is uber-wordy is to pair down my thoughts to the most necessary words. That is hard for this chick to do!
How do I do it? Find an image you shot (I might rely on my camera phone for quick ease in documenting my surroundings). Then I usually write a few sentences in Word and use the Word Count feature to see where I am at. With this one I was at 39 words to start out. Then I had to get busy editing (don't you wonder what 9 words I removed?).

What you see is the essence of the thing. And it feels like poetry. Which makes me happy.

Next week, it will just be the image and the words.

If this sounds like something you might enjoy, I invite you to join me!
