Pick Me Up

"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful." ~ Buddha

I am a bit under the weather today, so I am at home nursing myself through a nasty head cold and trying to stay awake long enough to complete  few things that have been on my rapidly spinning plates.

But at least I am not dead. So there is that to be thankful for (thanks, Buddha, for always putting things in perspective for me!)

I am enjoying my mixture of Emy J's Costa Rican mixed with Dunkin Donuts Vanilla Nut coffees and my Bailey's fat free French Vanilla creamer in my new favorite mug...
Thanks Miss Jennifer Jangles for always being a bright spot in my day!

There is no way I cannot help but smile when I see this Dr. Seuss tableware sitting with a steaming heap of liquid courage to face the day.

Today I am eating toast with cinnamon and sugar. I also tend toward wanting graham crackers with a light dusting of butter on them in little crumbly rectangle sandwiches. And my mom always made us warm milk with a touch of butter and sugar in it when we were feeling sick. Weird, I know. But that is the only thing that I want right now. That is comfort food to me.

Later I might catch up on episodes of Project Runway All Stars, American Idol and Raising Hope while snuggled under a blanket prepping bezels for 'simple truths' or maybe read some more of the book Goose Girl that I am reading as inspiration for a project that is looming for me...

But more likely than not, I will be working on starting my Challenge of Music accessories or creating the Verse & Vision poetry submission pieces (three are due right now!).  Just because I am sick doesn't mean the multi-tasking has to stop. ;-P

I am sure I will be back to my old, slightly less haggard self in no time.

Now where did I leave my mug?

What picks you up when you are under the weather?
What comfort foods do you gravitate to?
Do you slow down when you are feeling sick? or do you see that pile of dishes in the sink and feel compelled to wash, dry and put them away? (yeah, me neither! ;-)

  2. What, no truffles? I'm sorry you have a nasty head cold. They can make it difficult to hold your head up or even concentrate on the task at hand. I hope you recover quickly so you can get your projects finished on time. Mom always gave us chicken and stars soup when we felt yucky, and I always keep a can in the cabinet just in case.

  3. Aww Erin, hope you are feeling better very soon! I cannot think of any comfort food, but when I have a cold I always want Chilli!! As for the pile of dishes........I have to wash them up, sad but true, lots of thing can wait, but if I am feeling poorly, I need to have the house tidy so that I can feel bad without feeling guilty! (mind you, I said tidy, not clean!!! :))

Hugs to you, and don,t multitask too much, take some time to get yourself better x

  5. Awww, feel better Erin! There's nothing worse than having a headful and not being able to find your coffee! LOL Side note, I LOVE the Bailey's creamers... I'm pretty sure Buddah had something to do with the creation of those, because they are straight out of heaven! :o)

    {Hugs!}

  6. Hoping you feel better fast!

What tastes best is anything someone else makes for me but when I had an upset stomach last month the ginger snaps from the dollar store really did help!

  7. Oh Erin,
I'm sorry to hear you've not been feeling well!
I'm surprised you are doing as much as you are!
When I have a head cold, I usually feel so foggy....hard to find the energy or ability to do much else than snuggle up with a stack of magazines, an old movie or a sleeping cat....cats are always looking for an excuse to share a blanket :)

I'm hoping you are feeling better soon!!!
    My best,
    Cameron

  8. Sorry to hear you're sick, Erin, but I know a little head cold won't keep you down for long!
I love anything with cinnamon in it, so oatmeal with cinnamon and raisins would hit the spot for me. The guys here at work have been eating cinnamon with honey (on toast?)- evidently it's the new super food - cures all sorts of things (arthritis, high cholesterol, stomach aches, etc). I keep meaning to try it, it sounds good!
As for the dishes, I don't like doing them when I feel good, so, you let someone else in the house do those dishes!!
    Feel better soon.

  12. Erin,
Get to feeling better soon. It is funny how when we get to feeling sick we always think of the comfort foods from childhood when we had our loving Moms taking care of us. Mine was cheese whiz on toast and hot tea with honey. Oh and by the way I love that mug. Drinking anything out of a mug like that one should make you feel better.

  13. I'm actually under the weather as well and am home for the next 2 days instead of going in to work. I hope we both feel better soon. My comfort food when I'm sick is usually soup (tomato) and buttered toast. And it has got to be white bread. I find napping in bed and drinking lots of warm water with honey and lemon, Ribena (black currant drink, do you have that in the US?) and warm barley water (in asia, pearl barley is believed to be 'cooling' and good for fevers etc) helps when I'm sick.

  15. Love the quote and so sorry to hear you're ill.

What picks me up? guilty pleasures like a good movie or reading. YES I slow down and take care of myself - this comes after years of ignoring and resenting that I ignored.

    Feel better soon.

  16. Erin,

Feel better! It doesn't sound like you are resting though. :)

Happy to hear you like your mug.

Take care and get some rest,
    Jennifer

  17. Sorry you are sick and hope you feel better soon! I love the mug and my mom would give us warm milk with butter and honey so you aren't weird. I always want it when I'm sick too, it's like magic :-)

  18. That drink and mug have to be the best pick me up ever! I hope you're feeling better, but honestly I love sick days because they are the rare moment where I give myself permission to do nothing :) Peace, sister Buddha!

  19. Just found your blog. Love the pictures! Thanks for being so creative and sharing your work. Me? My feel good food is anything hot out of a crock pot that I haven't had to put any time and effort into. Get better!

  20. thanks for the quote today, Erin. That one hit the spot for me.
I don't feel compelled to do the dishes even when I'm NOT sick. Or vacuum. And dusting is right out.

  21. That cup would cheer me up even if I was under the weather. I hope you are feeling better by now.
I would feel compelled to do the dishes no matter how sick I was and "slow down?" never. I don't have an off button.

Do you want to know something really sick? We have lived in this house for over 20 years and I have never used the dishwasher. Don't like them. It still has the energy tag hanging it.
