"The world is your kaleidoscope, and the varying combinations of colors which at every suceeding moment it presents to you are the exquisitely adjusted pictures of your ever-moving thoughts." ~ James Allen
Welcome to the 2nd Annual Challenge of Color Blog Hop!The reason that I started this challenge was because I was stuck in a color rut. I thought it would be fun to jazz up my pieces with a dose of color on what would normally be a gray month around here in Wisconsin. So I invited some friends to play along. Last year over 40 people accepted my challenge. I never realized that so many others needed that color jolt as well!
So this year I decided to mix things up a bit. I found a wonderful color palette blog called Design Seeds. Jessica Colaluca is the brains behind that operation that takes a fresh look at color and supplies creatives like me with beautifully rendered palettes. Miss Jessica was kind enough to let us play along with her palettes as long as we linked back to her site. So I asked the participants to choose one color from a group of twelve. This could be a complete challenge to them, or something that they loved. Either way, I sent a totally unique palette to all 54 players in this colorful game. The only rule was that they had to use the main color that they chose. At the end of this post you will find a complete list of all the hoppers. I hope you will visit each one and of course, leave some feedback for them to let them know what you think of their interpretations!
Now it wouldn't be a challenge without me going a bit overboard. I threw down my own gauntlet to myself and declared that I would create one piece of jewelry for each of the twelve palettes. AND I would try to use an art bead in each. AND I would only use what I had available - no shopping.
And I did it.
I am exhausted but proud.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First we start off with one of our participants from afar, my friend Kirsi, all the way in Finland. Kirsi requested that I post her palette and creation on my blog, and I am happy to oblige.
teal - dragon hues |
wings of a dragon - by kirsi |
Kirsi chose the color teal. Kirsi is a color lover and loves to pair music with her jewelry designs. This is what she had to say about her necklace.
Hello. My name is Kirsi Luostarinen. I love colours! For this challenge I was inspired by the colour and I have always been fascinated by the dragons. I am a dragon, too. I was thinking about the Japanese new year celebration and "the walking dragons "there. The sound of music here is absolutely "Big in Japan" by Alphaville. It blows your mind with the necklace.
." The wings of a dragon" is made of coloured-patinated copper wire, feathers of pheasant, gemstones (mokaiitti in Finish) and artisan hollow lampbeads by Nadin Sandler.
Well done, Miss Kirsi! I am totally digging the feathers and the way you displayed the necklace!
On to my palettes! All twelve of them!
I will let the colors speak for themselves.........
Wow, I am speechless. They are gorgeous, and you have done a magnificient job!
Wow! Would I love to have your stash of beads and your talent! I have so many favorites: The colors, beads, and findings in "Hatching Hope" are wonderful! You managed to squeeze a whole host of my favorite colors in fun shapes into "Flora Bright," and while I admire every pair of earrings, I'm particularly fond of the "Agate Pink" ones (2nd pair). In addition to the cheery color and quality of beads, those silver square beadcaps are so unusual! (Now admittedly, I skipped about 1/2 way down the list of photos before I started commenting so I would leave something for others to say, :-) but you have lovely colors and designs throughout! I struggled with one palette, while you did many! Amazing stuff! Congratulations and, in addition, my gratitude to you for organizing this event!
Oh Erin, I'm sad, that I missed that hop - but our honeymoon had to be first, but next year hopefully I can participate again. Your work is stunning as always. You have such a distinctive and splendorous style. Love every single peace!
Crikey, that's a lot of jewellery! I can't pick a favourite. Time to go and see what all the other lovely people came up with!
You are amazing, girl! Fancy doing the whole 12!!
I can't pick a favourite...but I love the blue...your pendant is a delight! I gasped when I saw the beautiful agate slice and the yellow and grey bead by Kerry...such a fashionable colour mix at the moment...and I love the Yellow palette with Heathers beads.Thank you for using one of my ribbed beads in the teal palette...that was quite a sweet surprise!! Thank you so much for organising this lovely, fun event.
jenni
These pieces are spectacular, and it was loads of fun scrolling down, viewing the palette, and with a little suspense finally seeing what you created! It's hard to pick a favorite. The dragon one is such an eye popper, I loved the caprese....but ever since looking at it, I can't take my mind off of the piece with Rafya's pendant! These are all a great inspiration! Thanks for hosting this awesome challenge!
I can honestly say, I would have a hard time picking my favorite color pallete! I liked the pear. I liked them all! Great job and thanks for hosting this blog hop. I can hardly wait to see what everyone does with their colors!
Wow - I am speechless!! I couldn't possibly choose a favourite, they are all amazing! Thank you so much for hosting Erin, I have had so much fun!
It's been wonderful seeing what every one has created, i'm loving the palettes, gorgeous
Well Miss Erin, again, thank you so much for hosting this challenge! You are truly an inspiration and I am flabbergasted by the fact that you completed your significant challenge for yourself. I am not at all surprised by the beautiful designs you've created, they are gorgeous. I do very much like your One Tiny Pebble!
Every single piece is stunning. And I am in awe at how beautifully you managed the various colour combos. I'm a sucker for anything purple so flora hues was an instinctive favorite. But I think I'll have to pick shell tones after much consideration because it's tough to work with what I like to term 'non-colours' and I appreciate your elegant, beautiful earrings so much more in view of this.
Erin, amazing pieces and such stunning colours in all 12...Thank you for putting this together and allowing me to take part....
Kirsi, great piece, love the feathers
Oh my oh my! What amazing work you have done! I just can't pick one favourite. I love the glossy blues and the silver connector of One Tiny Pebble and how the connector follows on so well from your pendant, but the mix of seed beads and the gorgeous lampwork in Modern Day Corsage is so lovely. And then there's Pear Tones with softly subtle colours and such beautiful components too! No, definitely can't choose a favourite.
Thank you so much for organising the challenge - I've had great fun!
Wow, what wonderful pieces. Kirsi did a great job with her palette. And I think my favorite of yours is the green, although the red runs a close second. But then they're all gorgeus. And that second set of the pink earrings really calls to me.
My post is up, but I'm hoping to get better pictures today. I was running out of time and light last night. :) Thanks for the opportunity to participate. I love the Design Seeds site.
Amazing Erin! I am blown away by the gorgeous pieces you created. As I scrolled down your blog I thought, oh this piece is my favorite...scroll down more...wait, no this one is my favorite...everything is just stunning! Your photographs are really beautiful too! With everything going on during this busy time of year, you were still able to create 13 gorgeous designs! You are an inspiration Erin!
(just commenting to say bravo! i don't wish to enter the drawing--i never wear earrings anymore!) oh man, so hard to pick! i'm torn between the barked orange bracelet, indigo hues pendant, and the color fuse bracelet. but i think i have to go with the barked orange, love that cinnamon and indigo together.
Wow! I can't pick a favorite, they are all so wonderful! Your work is always so amazing! (can I come and play with you and your beads????) :)
This is a wonderful hop - the color palettes have all been amazing.
Erin, I am blown away. I absolutely adore the indigo hues necklace and the red velvet bracelet. I also love the pear tints necklace. The clasp is so pretty. Hmm.. I will stop here, or I will end up naming all 12 as my favorite. :) Thanks for hosting the challenge.
you are insane! everything is so beautiful. I like the red palette, well I like them all but the red spoke to me. I wonder if that is because I got maroon and gray in my palette.
Beautiful pieces and only 1 pair of earrings. You amaze me.
Shannon C
No I am not going to do it! I can not possibly pick my favorite. I will however tell you that your ripple pendant will forever be etched in my brain as a statement of who you are and how much a part of the ripple in my growing circle you are.
Before I get too sappy and start crying (really because the tears are starting) I have to say thank you for being you!
Erin you are officially at the top of my beading hero list!!! These designs are all so spectacular. How to pick a favorite?!?! I love them all, but I guess I love Chocolate Chips the most. I think:) I can't stop looking! Thanks so much for hosting this challenge,it really got my wheels spinning!
Wow Erin,quite the organizational feather in your cap, brava! Plus your work is beautiful as well. I like yours, of course and Chocolate Chips. All are very inspired.
First I want to thank you for hosting this fun, unique challenge. I truly enjoyed it right down to my toes.
You Did It! I'm overly expressed. Erin you are one of the most prolific, talented designers out there. High Five!
My favorites are the red velvet and the shelled tones
Okay. I don't know if it is because I am always drawn to green, or the fact that I am a little hungry right now? BUT I love what you did with the Caprese Hues palette! Your necklace looks just as yummy as those kabobs! Nice color balance with the green and brown. Seriously Erin I know I don't need to type this because I have told you a million tomes already but you are so talented. Your work is truly YOU and I love it. All of your designs in this post are beautiful - you were right about the eye candy.
Design Seeds is one of my favorite digital stops and I am very happy to be a part of this challenge. Even though you gave me ORANGE in my grey palette... sneaky lady, you really did want it to be a challenge didn't you?! :)
One last thing to this long comment. Your photography looks awesome. It is so great to see you grow as an artist over the past couple years. A+ work all around.
Now I am off to work, then I will hop later this afternoon. I can't wait to see all of the designs. (you have my email)
Wow! Great color palettes! I'd pick flora hues because last night I was working on a necklace with one of those colors and got stuck. Now thanks to you I think I'm *unstuck*! Yay!
Erin, I had so much fun with this color challenge, not just in the creating, but also meeting new bloggers and seeing such lovely creations. I'm already anticipating the next color challenge. Jessica's palettes are just beautiful! I din't see any that I didn't like.
Thanks so much for putting this all together. And I'm beginning to think you don't sleep. Your pieces are all amazing! Yay, you finished them all!
Thanks for hosting. Well done, exceptionally well done. I have several favorites, but all are beautifully put together.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! Erin ~ as always you are truly amazing. All your designs are gorgeous! I don't know how you do everything you do. But THANKS for YOU and for always SHARING!!!
Smiles, Pam
Wow! What absolutely gorgeous work, my friend! You nailed each and every one of these palettes! Thank you so much for inspiring us to think "outside" our everyday crayon box :)
Erin, your talents know no boundries! All of your creations for this color challenge are gorgeous and it was very hard to pick out a favorite. So I chose the Caprese necklace as my favorite. The colors are so bright and pretty and all of the elements you used in the necklace complaiment each other well. I have been enjoying hopping around viewing what everyone has done in your color challenge. When you host another color challenge I will be sure to sign up to join in on the fun.
Therese
OMG Erin!
You are my hero! Not only did you do all 12, but ALL 12 pieces turned out AMAZING!!!
Great job, Maria
thank you for all you do in this challenge event Erin! Your work is amazing :)
You seriously think I can only pick ONE thing I like best? Hmmm... a challenge, itself. How 'bout this, I'll pick a fav from each category:
Necklace: tie between Wild Cacao & Caprese with Journey to Jaipur a close 2nd
Bracelet: Fortune Favors with Hatching Hope a (very) close 2nd
Earrings: Golden Pagodas
What a fun thing to do and what a great way to stretch your creativity or boot a mental block! Hope you do this again!
Erin, each one of your creations are so lovely and you got through on time.THAT IS AMAZING
bE BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING
Just stumbled upon your blog today - and reading your post made the drab beige walls of my tiny office close in ever tighter. Now I'm itching to get out and play with some colors!
Okay! You must get the most productive award!!! Very cool designs!
WOW and just more wow! Your creations are stunning, every single one of them! I'm so impressed and inspired by all this eye candy! Thank you for arranging this delightful blog hop. I'm off to go visit the other color mavens!
What a great idea Erin!! And I loved each one of your pieces, I always do! But if I were to pick a favorite, and shock it's not pink, it would be the pear tones with the pearls, branches, and heather's beads. Simple, yet elegant, a little romantic like a fling with nature!
Erin! You clearly do not sleep. I am in awe of all of your pieces - I'd be hard pressed to narrow it down to even 3 favorites, lol. And that you just happened to have all that lying around... Hoard much? You are enjoying all of your days, aren't you?
And Kirsi's necklace is so much fun with those feathers. I want the dragon in her photo!
such beautiful work, erin! my two favorites are the rustling leaves and hatching hope.
They are all beautiful Erin - I don't know how you do it all! My favorites are The lavender"Dry Tones" bracelet and the grey "Color Fuse" bracelet - the stalagtite is wonderful! Thank You so much for hosting!
Erin! thank you so much for such a fun blog hop challenge! you are amazing, I loved every thing you created, it would be hard to choose a favorite! n
Amazing! I love the lavender dried piece. It is beautiful. What I wonderful challenge. It is so easy to get stuck in a rut with our type of work. I can totally identify.
Oh my!! Erin you have been a very busy gal!! Beautiful, beautiful designs!! Thank you so much for organizing such a fun and colorful hop!! I'm already looking forward to the next one!
Those palettes are all so inspiring! What a challenge you set for yourself -- and what a fab result! Not just are there so many different types of colour combos (from vibrant to neutral, from simple harmonies to tricky combos), but also different styles and feels in the jewellery you made from them.
Thank you so much for doing this very fun and inspiring challenge! It made me pick and work with a colour I'd probably avoid otherwise and use a palette very different from my usual favourites. Can't wait for next year. ;)
And such generous prizes too!
Kirsi: What a fun and unusual necklace what with the colourful feathers on the sides. Well done! (And now I can't get that song out of my head, but then again I have a soft spot for Alphaville and 80's music.)
First of all, cheers for Kirsi. Her piece was fun and lively, and hit her colors perfectly!
Now on to the queen of color. A favorite? Really? Cause you know what I was doing, right? As I scrolled down, at each one I would say, Oh! That's my fave!, then I'd see the next one, and off I'd go again! So, I finally narrowed down to two. And that's just because they are the colors I wear, not cause they aren't all stinking gorgeous! I love the Fortune Favors, and One Tiny Pebble. What a stunning job you did! Words just can't express how fully satisfied I am after all that color and artistic design I just experienced. Thank you so much for this wonderful challenge!
Gorgeous, my friend, absolutely gorgeous! I'm having a tough time picking between the Indigo palette piece and the Color Fuse gray palette piece. A really tough time!
I'm sorry to have missed out on this color palette hop, but I'm off to check out everyone's pieces!
I can only pick one!!? Can't do it...The top three favorites for me are Blue, Red Velvet and gray... Absolutely stunning and so full of clever designing...just gorgeous work!! Every one of them is beautiful... :)))
Yours is one of the most inspirational blogs I've ever read and today's post tops them all! Love all your jewellery but the red one is my fave. Thanks for the info on where to find the palettes - brilliant! Now I'm off to visit the others artists' pages.
First I want to thank you for hosting this challenge. I did it last year also. I especially like how you incorporated Design Seed palettes into the challenge. I clip my favorite palettes to Evernote and am thus able to access them when I am shopping or putting together class samples.
I love all your pieces and really could not pick out a favorite. You are an inspiration to us all.
Erin, your creations from each and every color palette are so very inspiring. I find one and think "it's my favorite" until I get to the very.next.one (and it keeps repeating!) Thank you for putting the challenge out there. Having such a unique palette really made my brain and heart work. I created a true work of art that I didn't know was in me. You are a true gem and a gift to the artisan community. I feel so blessed to call you a friend!
{Hugs & Love to you!}
Erin - thank you SOOOOO much for organizing this blog hop. So much work went into choosing the palettes and then creating pieces from each color family to boot - your pieces are absolutely stunning! Thanks you again, my friend - you never cease to amaze and inspire me! :)
Holy schnickies, lady! When you set yourself a challenge, you ramp things way up don't you? Twelve palettes, an art bead in each, and no shopping?? You have confirmed my belief in the importance of having a big stash 'o beads, just in case. (and I'm going to use this logic if my husband questions my need to go bead shopping!) Each is beautiful, but I particularly like the grey piece - the blue agate is gorgeous, and I love how the yellow stripe on the lampwork bead looks like the fuse in the photo. Thanks for coordinating this!
Firstly, I love Kirsi's piece, absolutely beautiful! The feathers are such a great touch! Now, for yours...
**STUNNED SILENCE for several minutes** I bow down to a master, milady Erin... I am just... I am in awe of your talent.. it took me long enough to do my ONE palette and ONE piece... to have 12 and to do 12? You are so incredibly inspiring. Thank you so much for letting us do this, for organizing this... everything! I am not sure I can pick a favorite, everything was so incredible... but I think I'm going to have to say the red velvet, the bracelet you made is just so beautiful but wearable. A work of art that you could wear every day. Love it!
Oh crum, I thought the app was good for Androids, too. Oh well. Will have to check out her books.
Was actually kept the best for last. All of the designs are lovely but the one that truly spoke to me was the red palette. And I am not even a fan of red.
Miss Erin, you are such an over-acheiver! I was challenged with my ONE color palette and you did 12. I LOVED working on the challenge and, like you, I got all my supplies from my stash -- That's why I don't know who all created my beads, some were gifts from swaps. Thanks so much for your kind comment on my blog!
Thanks for putting us all together and for your generous gifties!
Emanda
You are so amazing - not only do you come up with an awesome blog hop - you create 12 stunning pieces of jewelry for each color scheme. I may have to play this game in January when it's snowy and cold and I'm ready for color. Did I mention how wowed I am by those designs?!!!
The first thing that went through my mind was dang! What a lot of work! The second thing was dang! what a lot of beads! Gorgeous pieces, just gorgeous!
Erin, what an incredible color challenge. And just like you to jump in with both feet and create jaw-dropping jewelry. I have to wonder, how in the world did you do it all?? I know, many late nights and natural talent. :-) I kept saying "this is my favorite"...then scrolled down tot he next one and said the same thing. So hard to chose! But I will list a few that I just have to mention:
The Green, Indigo, and Teal pieces....every single one so stunning!
the Jaipur designs are pretty and beautiful...
O M G !
Those pieces are GORGEOUS..and I can't believe you made them all in the time it took me to create a single piece! I will be back to spend more time staring in awe and drinking in the loveliness later. You amaze me, thank you for all this inspiration!
What absolutely gorgeous creations! And no, I cannot pick a favorite. Each one of them is stunning. Kudos to you and your talented friends.
So sorry to have been out of the loop, Erin. But even though I'm focusing elsewhere, my heart and head are always with my friends in blogland.
Christmas is coming and I will be perusing your shop for all my favorite people.
In fact, I need to talk to you about a special someone I've been thinking of. I'll send you an email shortly.
Amazing versatility! I love the hatched orange best--and that's saying something because I usually cringe when I see orange.
Fabulously wonderful! I do love your designs and hope to see them in magazines soon. I love all of the jewelry but if I was forced to pick a fav it would be the blue indigo hues. I am also amazed that you already had all of these lovely beads and didn't need to purchase anything for the challenge. And Jessica's palettes are stunning.
I forgot to mention Kirsi! Just lovely with the feathers. And what gorgeous colors, too.
Wow! It's so hard to pick a favourite as they are all beautiful. I will choose one creation for each category.
So, earrings: Agate pink
Bracelet: Fortune Favors
Necklace: One Tiny Pebble
And... I wish I had your stash! You have great beads inthere!
Thanks for hosting this challenge!
Ambra
Erin,
This challenge was a fantastic idea! I enjoyed seeing what all the talented participants made, and I'm just itching to participate next year.
Great job!
-- Sarah
All knockout gorgeous but I am digging chocolate chips the most!!!
This post made my day!! The colors are gorgeous and the pieces are sublime. Thank you so much for sharing,every one of them is a work of art!!!
I hope to participate the next time around
~Sharon~
Thank you thank you thank you for a wonderful challenge and for being such a great hostess. Your pieces are, of course, absolutely stunning! Thanks again and I hope you do this again soon!
Erin, what a wonderful blog hop you created. Everyone's work is so stunning and original. I must say I was stopped in my tracks when I saw what you made with my Maple Seed Wings pendant. Just incredible. Wonderful colors Thanks you so much. Can I post the pic on Facebook or my blog? or both?
A favorite, as in singular? Not possible! I do favor Wild Cacao, Journey to Jaipur, Fortune Favors the Brave, Rustling Leaves, Hatching Hope, Golden Pagodas! But Erin, if you were a movie star, you would have 12 Oscars, if you were a novelist, you would have 12 bestsellers!!! Your stash is a king's ransom. ( I really need to shop with you more often) even when it's via Etsy. The whole collection and challenge is just superb!
Wow - you did a fantastic job. Hard to pick just one favorite but I think you nailed the colors in the green Caprese hues perfectly - that green pendant really pops!
I'm also happy to see you're giving all these great artists kudos with the prizes - great job all around! BTW -
love the pagoda earrings too. ~~T
Erin, you are one overly ambitious lady!! I'm amazed that you were able to create such stand-out pieces in EACH of the palettes. Just...wow. I started reading this post of yours with the intent to pick out a single favorite. That was impossible. Each of your pieces is fabulous. I particularly like the green, lavender, and teal pieces. However, like I said, they're all amazing!!
Thank you for putting the challenge to each of us and hosting it. It was a lot of fun! Jessica's palettes are über inspiring and I think I'll be turning to them for just that in the future!
I love them all, but it was a toss up between indigo hues and color fuse. so pretty! thanks for putting this together for us!!!
I simply do not want to choose! I am impressed! From one who knows what it takes to do a project like this, I am truly in awe! Not a single detail missed. Do you sleep?
I love them all, Erin, and what an amazing job you did. I think I like Journey to Jaipur the best, though, and thank you for listing the artist's name! You are incredible as usual!
